SanDisk Falls 24.8% in a Week|Analysts Keep Raising Targets
The Crash With No Bad News
SanDisk shares fell twenty-four point eight percent across four trading sessions this week, the steepest weekly drop for the stock since March of twenty twenty-five. The stock now trades near fourteen eleven dollars, thirty-nine percent below the all-time high it touched in June.
No earnings miss triggered the slide, and no guidance was cut. Not a single analyst downgraded SanDisk this week, yet the shares are down thirty-nine percent from that June peak.
The bottleneck traces back four days, when a research firm cut its near-term forecast for NAND flash pricing and warned that average selling prices are falling faster than the market expected. That single call reset how traders price SanDisk's next two quarters, well before Wall Street's own targets moved.
Two Wall Streets, One Stock
While the NAND pricing call rattled the stock, the equity research desks moved the opposite direction. Citigroup held a twenty-five-hundred-dollar target, and Evercore ISI raised its target to thirty-one hundred dollars from fourteen hundred, even as the shares kept falling.
Bernstein lifted its target to three thousand dollars from seventeen hundred, and Citigroup's Asiya Merchant kept her buy rating, arguing that five signed multi-year hyperscaler agreements make the earnings power more durable than a near-term pricing swing suggests. Eighteen of twenty-two analysts covering SanDisk still rate it buy or strong buy.
But the retail crowd is voting differently than the desks. A recent sentiment poll put Micron well ahead of SanDisk for best returns, fifty-seven percent to nineteen percent, and heavy volume on SanDisk's own message boards suggests momentum traders, not fundamental holders, are driving this week's selling.
The Assumption Nobody Is Pricing
SanDisk isn't falling alone. Dell dropped as much as twelve percent and Micron fell about nine percent the same week, after reports that Washington may tighten export restrictions on high-bandwidth memory and that a major cloud customer plans to sublease surplus AI capacity. Newly launched leveraged single-stock ETFs on SK Hynix have added nineteen-percent single-session swings across the same sector, amplifying every move.
CEO David Goeckeler calls the hyperscaler shift a fundamental inflection point, anchoring the bull case to those five signed multi-year agreements. But the same quarter showed consumer-segment revenue falling ten percent sequentially, which means the growth math already depends on a shrinking number of hyperscaler customers absorbing an even larger share of output. That concentration is the assumption the price targets treat as a given.
A company director sold eight hundred seventy thousand dollars of stock in May, a small fraction of his holdings tied to vesting rather than a reversal of conviction. That detail alone does not explain the plunge, but it adds one more data point traders are reading as caution near the top.
What Breaks the Standoff
SanDisk's next earnings report lands August fifth, but that print is three weeks away and will still reflect last quarter's numbers. The variable that actually decides this standoff prints sooner: the weekly NAND spot-pricing data the same research desks are watching, the same data point that triggered this week's downgraded forecast in the first place.
If spot pricing stabilizes or turns higher before the next print, this thirty-nine percent pullback becomes an entry point into a stock still trading near seven and a half times forward earnings against targets north of two thousand dollars. That is the state that turns this week's plunge into opportunity, not damage.
If spot pricing keeps falling and no sixth hyperscaler agreement is announced before August fifth, this same thirty-nine percent drop becomes the first leg of a real correction rather than a pause. That single number, not the earnings date, is what holders and watchers should check first.
